South Africa stand in captain Keshav Maharaj became the first Proteas spinner to take 200 wickets. He reached this milestone during the second day of the first Test match against Zimbabwe. Maharaj who made his Test debut in 2016 against Australia at WACA Stadium, has picked up 202 wickets in 59 matches.
Maharaj achieved the feat when he dismissed his Zimbabwe counterpart Craig Ervine in the 34th over, stumped by Kyle Verreynne.
Maharaj has been South Africa's highest wicket-taker among slow bowlers since going past former off-spinner Hugh Tayfield's tally of 170 scalps.
Left-arm spinner Maharaj now has 202 wickets from 59 Tests, with 11 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match haul.
Maharaj also has 631 wickets from 166 matches in First-Class cricket.
Coming back to the match, ean Williams heavily impressed on day 2 of the first Test between Zimbabwe and South Africa, at the Queen’s Cricket Ground, with a brilliant 136, scoring more than half of his team’s first innings total, as the Proteas further dominated and now lead by 216 runs at stumps.
World Test Champions South Africa declared their first innings at their overnight score of 418/9, powered by a brilliant century from 19-year-old Luan Pretorius, who played a memorable knock of 153 runs off 160 balls. Lower down the order, Corbin Bosch also made a significant impact with the bat, scoring a century off 124 deliveries just before stumps were called on Day 1.
