One of the main talking points so far in the Test series between India and England has been Jasprit Bumrah's workload. India head coach Gautam Gambhir had made it clear before the series even began that the star pacer will only be featuring in three out of the five Tests in the series as he needs to take of his body. Due to this, Bumrah was rested for the second Test at Edgbaston and is highly likely to miss the final Test of the series at the Oval as well.
Ten Doeschate wants Siraj's workload to also be managed
Ahead of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate feels that Mohammed Siraj's workload also needs to be managed properly as the seamer has bowled extra overs on multiple occasions in the series so far.
"It is equally important to manage the workload of someone like Mohammed Siraj, who is always ready to bowl those extra overs, like Stokes did on day five at Lord's," ten Doeschate said during a press-conference.
"We take for granted how lucky we are to have someone like that. I know he doesn't always have the returns that you expect from a fast bowler, but in terms of heart, he's like a lion and what he brings to this bowling attack, whenever he does have the ball in hand, you always feel like something's going to happen," he added.
The former Netherlands cricketer also confirmed that Bumrah will be missing the fifth Test at the Oval and will feature in the fourth Test in Manchester.
"We know we have got him for one of the last two Tests. It's pretty obvious that the series on the line now in Manchester so there will be a leaning towards playing him," ten Doeschate stated.
"But again, we have got to look at all the factors: how many days of cricket are we going to get up there, what do we feel is our best chance of winning that game, and then how that fits in together with The Oval. And looking at the last two games holistically as part of the series," he added.
Meanwhile, the fourth Test at Old Trafford between India and England is set to commence from July 23. The Three Lions currently lead the series by 2-1 after they recorded a 22-run victory in the third match at Lord's. It is now highly important for Shubman Gill & Co. to come out victorious in Manchester as if the hosts record another win, then they will seal the series before even playing the fifth and final match of the series.
