Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik jockingly suggested Rishabh Pant should split his match fees alongside Dhruv Jurel for keeping wickets in the third Test match against England at Lord's Stadium in London. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant got injured while keeping wickets on Day 2.
He injured his hand shortly after the lunch interval while trying to take a delivery angled down the leg side from Jasprit Bumrah, which Ollie Pope had missed. The ball struck Pant on the end of his fingers. He was in severe pain before leaving the field midway alongside physios, and play had to be stopped for some time in order for him to receive treatment. After the Indian physio sprayed his hand with 'magic spray' and applied more tape to his fingers, Pant was able to continue keeping for the rest of the over.
Since his injury, Pant hasn't kept wickets, but the 27-year-old star batted and scored 74 runs. After Pant left the field, Jurel took the wicketkeeping duties since the revised rules allow such provision.
"Rishabh Pant should share his match fees with Dhruv Jurel," Dinesh Karthik said on-air.
Dhruv Jurel's glove work while standing up to the stumps, especially against Akash Deep, who bowls well over the 80 miles per hour mark, was appreciated by the commentators on air. His sharp catch to dismiss Ollie Pope to break the 109-run stand for the third wicket was also a massive moment in the game.
“The position of the right leg determines in many ways how well your head position is in relation to the glove. Dhruv Jurel is a lot more lower and closer to the keeping pads, and the height of it as compared to Pant,” Dinesh Karthik had explained on Day 1 (via India Today).
Coming back to the third Test, the first session of the day came in India's favour as they picked up four wickets. At lunch, England are 98/4 with Ben Stokes 2* (13) and Joe Root 17* (40) unbeaten on the crease. England started Day 4 on 2/0 with Zak Crawley (2) and Ben Duckett (0*) unbeaten on the crease. Mohammed Siraj gave the host an early blow as he removed Duckett for 12 in the 6th over, and Ollie Pope joined Crawley in the middle.
