Team India's newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill addressed the media on the eve of the five-match series opener against England.

During the press conference Shubman Gill set records straight on what would be India's approach in the all-important series which will also mark the beginning of their new WTC 2025-2027 cycle. When asked about India's playing XI and team combination for the series opener on June 20, Gill said that they they are still open for it and hadn't finalised the lineup yet. However, he also stated that team has one or two different combinations ready.
"We have one or two different combinations ready. Will have a look at the pitch and take the call," Gill said in the pre-match press conference.
When asked about India's overall approach in this WTC cycle, Gill kept it vague but intriguing: "You have to wait till August to see what kind of brand we will play," he said with a smile, suggesting that the team is still evolving its identity.
He also made his intentions clear for the series and said that he wants to play as a batter and not think about captaincy while batting.
"When I want to go out there and bat, I want to play as a batter and not think about captaincy that can put pressure on me. I want to be the best batter in the series,” he added.
Gill also shed light on the atmosphere within the team's dressing room and talked about the critical importance of fostering a secure and supportive culture amongst the players.
"We want to create an environment in the team which is very secure," Gill concluded.
