India's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate has come up with a positive update on Rishabh Pant's injury. India would want their star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in good stead heading into the crucial fourth Test against England which is slated to start from July 23 in Manchester. Pant picked up an injury during third Test against England while keeping wickets, however he returned to bat in both the innings, but couldn't save India from going down to England by 22 runs.
Will Rishabh Pant feature in the fourth Test against England?
In a big boost to India, Pant is making good progress in his recovery, Ryan Ten Doeschate. Team India held a training session at the County Ground in Beckenham on Thursday, July 17 before their travel to Manchester for the fourth Test, which is a do-or-die for the Shubman Gill's brigade.
Meanwhile Doeschate confirmed that Pant is nearing full fitness ahead of the fourth Test match.
"He will bat in Manchester before the Test. Look, I don't think it's going to keep Rishabh out of the Test, no matter what. He batted with quite a lot of pain in the third Test, and it's only going to get easier and easier on his finger," ten Doeschate told reporters on the sidelines of India's practice session.
Notably, during the first day of the Lord's Test, Pant sustained an injury while attempting to field a ball. He dove to make a pickup but couldn't gather the ball cleanly. Following the incident, Pant appeared to be in considerable pain and had to leave the field to receive medical attention. As a result, Dhruv Jurel took over wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the first day's second session. Despite this finger injury, Pant came to bat in both the innings and scored a valuable 74 runs in the first.
However, the assistant coach clarified that while Pant is recovering well, the final decision regarding whether he will perform wicket-keeping duties in the upcoming fourth Test is yet to be made by the team management.
"Keeping is obviously the last part of the process to make sure that he can keep. We don't want to go through that again, where we have to replace the keeper after three innings. But yeah, he rested today. He's trying to give the finger as long as possible, and hopefully he's good to go in Manchester," he added.
