India have suffered a major setback right ahead of the ODI series against England which is slated to start from July 14. India's star pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the three-match ODI outing due to hamstring injury.

Hamstring injury rules out Harshit Rana from England ODIs
Sports Tak has learnt that Harshit has suffered a Grade 1 biceps femoris muscle injury in hamstring which and will take some time to recover. The 24-year-old will accordingly report to BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) for the rehabilitation. Earlier, Rana had also missed the fourth and fifty T20Is against England.
What the medical team initially hoped would be a brief stint on the treatment table quickly snowballed into a grueling four-month layoff. The knee damage turned out to be far more severe than first diagnosed, ultimately sidelining the pacer for the entirety of the IPL 2026 season as well.
He finally made his highly anticipated return to competitive cricket during India's recent T20I assignment in Ireland, marking the end of his four-month hiatus. Unfortunately, his comeback proved to be incredibly short-lived. Across the back-to-back tours of Ireland and England, Rana managed to send down just 14 overs in five appearances before his body broke down again—this time suffering a hamstring tear that pulled the plug on his tour.

The injury not only forced him out of the final two T20Is against England but has now officially ruled him out of the upcoming three-match ODI series. This serves as another massive setback for an Indian squad that has been plagued by fitness casualties throughout the English summer. With mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy also sent packing due to a matching hamstring injury, the team management has been left thoroughly depleted in the bowling department for the final stretch of the tour.
Rana to report to CoE
For the young fast bowler, the long road to recovery begins anew. Rana is set to check into the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where the BCCI’s medical staff will evaluate the severity of the hamstring damage, map out a fresh rehabilitation blueprint, and establish a realistic timeline for his next return to the pitch.
