Following the T20I series defeats in Ireland and England, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has decided to step down from his role. As per a report by Cricbuzz, Ten Doeschate has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision. If his request is approved, the ongoing ODI series against England will be his last assignment.

Why Ten Doeschate is leaving?
While India coaching staff has been on the receiving end of criticism of late, the report says that Ten Doeschate has decided to move on due to personal reasons. He wants to spend time with his young kids as his wife is working as well. He does not get time to spend time with his family based in London as Indian team has a jam-packed schedule round the year.
Ten Doeschate is likely to look for a role that doesn’t require him to travel much often.
Gambhir brought Ten Doeschate to his staff
Ten Doeschate joined the India's coaching staff in July 2024. He had previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as fielding coach. The former Netherlands all-rounder was part of the KKR coaching staff when they won the IPL 2024 under current T20I captain Shreyas Iyer's leadership.
When Gambhir took over as head coach, he recommended Ten Doeschate to the BCCI. Gambhir can technically stop the 46-year-old from leaving and fulfill the contract but he is unlikely to do so. Many have questioned Ten Doeschate role, especially with T Dilip as fielding coach.
With Ten Doeschate as assistant coach, India have won the T20 Asia Cup 2025, ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026.
When will be Ten Doeschate’s last day?
If Ten Doeschate’s request is approved and he departs the coaching staff with mutual consent, the third ODI of the series at Lord's, London, on July 19 will be his last in the Indian dressing room. In that chase, India will be without the services of Ten Doeschate on the Zimbabwe tour later this month.
