'Still trying to sink in...': Jai Moondra reacts after Ireland's historic 2-0 T20I series sweep over India

Ireland claimed a historic T20I series win against India on Sunday, June 29. Rajasthan-born pacer Jai Moondra played a pivotal role in the historic series win over the reigning champions in T20Is. Notably, this was Moondra's maiden series for Ireland as well. In the second and final T20I of the series, Moondra won the Player of the Series award for his stunning performance across two games.

Brilliant performance from Jai Moondra vs India

While batting first, the Irish team managed to put 154 runs on the board, with Harry Tector being the top scorer of the side with his knock of 53 runs off 47 balls with the help of five fours and one six. Meanwhile, Benjamin Calitz managed to provide a decent finish with his quick fire cameo of 37 runs off just 23 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes.

In the second innings, the Men in Blue endured a tough start with Jai Moondra removing the opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson on golden ducks. Later on, Moondra managed to remove newly appointed skipper Shreyas Iyer on the score of 10 off seven balls.

Across the two-game T20I series against the Men in Blue, Moondra managed five wickets. In the first game, Moondra finished the game with the figures of 2/25 in four overs, removing Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube. Meanwhile in the second game, the left-arm pacer had another brilliant outing with the figures of 3/32.

After the game, Moondra expressed his happiness over the series win against India, saying it is very hard to describe the feeling in just one word. However, he admitted that it feels great to play and win against the best side in the world.

“Still trying to sink in the feeling. I know it is hard to describe in one word. It is an amazing feeling playing against the best, testing yourself. So just doing the basics for longer, that was the plan," said Moondra at the post-game presentation ceremony.

What's next for India?

After the shameful 2-0 loss against Ireland the Shreyas Iyer-led side will gear themselves to lock horns against England in the five-game T20I series. The first game between England and India will take place on Wednesday, July 1 at the Banks Homes Riverside, Chester-Le-Street.
