India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is known for his flamboyant batting style but what he says during a match and his verbal actions are no less exciting.
In the ongoing three-match Test series between India and South Africa, Pant was heard having a verbal exchange of words with South Africa batsman Rassie van der Dussen. Pant came to bat on Day 3 of the second Test match played in Johannesburg and shortly after he came the heated exchange of words had taken place.
Van der Dussen had something to say at the end of 38th over, regarding his dismissal that took place the previous day. And pretty unsurprisingly, the words were aimed at Pant.
Controversial dismissal
Van der Dussen was dismissed by Indian pacer Shardul Thakur after scoring just a run as wicketkeeper Pant had taken the catch. The South Africa batsman went back to the pavilion eventually but the replays showed that the decision was controversial. The replays revealed that Pant had taken the catch after the ball had bounced off the ground.
Van der Dussen’s words seemed to have paid off ultimately as the 24-year-old Indian wicketkeeper did not wait too long to respond.
Pant said, “If you have half knowledge, then keep your mouth shut.”
Out for a duck
Van der Dussen was not only successful in making Pant respond but also it might have played some role in getting the Indian keeper’s wicket after Pant was dismissed scoring a duck.
The Roorkee-born keeper’s shot selection was again in front of a big question mark after he decided to come down the ground against South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada in the 39th over. The short-of-a-length delivery did not seem to perturb Pant as he looked to play a shot over extra cover but the shot was not convincing enough as he only secured to provide an edge that went straight to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne’s gloves.
Previously, Pant grabbed headlines after he called the former Australian captain “a temporary captain” during India’s tour of Australia back in 2018-19. After Paine came to bat against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Pant was heard saying, “We have got a special guest here. Have you heard the word temporary captain ever?”
