Team India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has revealed that Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be used as part-time bowlers in the future. Earlier, India had plenty of bowling options in their top order. Batters like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virender Sehwag used to roll their arm whenever a bowler was having a hard time. However, over the last few years Indian team has lacked batters who can contribute with the ball. The influx of new talent has presented an opportunity as they have had experience of bowling in domestic cricket.
“When you have someone who can chip in, it is nice. I have seen Tilak and Yashasvi bowl since U19 days. They are capable of being good bowlers. They can work on it at this level. When you got options like these, it is nice to have them. We will see them bowl soon hopefully, we are working on it. It will take time. Soon, we will see them bowling an over at least,” Mhambrey told the reporters ahead of the fourth T20I against West Indies in Florida.
Mhambrey expects a flurry of fours and sixes in high-scoring encounters on Florida wickets. He wants his bowlers to expect West Indies batters to come hard at them and emphasised the need of executing plans.
“This format is such that batters are going to come after you, especially on a wicket like this. It is important to have discipline. It is important to decide on plans, the execution becomes really important. If you focus on it, you are giving yourself the best chance to be successful," Mhambrey added.
Jaiswal, Varma’s bowling numbers
Jaiswal bowls leg-spin and has taken seven wickets from 13 innings in List A cricket (One-Day). On the other hand, Varma has eight wickets from 11 innings in List A cricket. He has two wickets in T20 cricket as well.
Contrasting debuts
Jaiswal made his T20I debut in the must-win clash. He could not do much with the bat and scored just one run before getting out in the first over of the run chase. Varma has been in tremendous form scoring 139 runs from three innings including one half-century.
