'There were a lot of positives': Shreyas Iyer confident India will bounce back after disastrous England tour

Ahead of the first game, India's T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer has opened up on the recent 0-4 loss against England, where every player faced challenges in giving their best.

Ahead of the first T20I against Zimbabwe, India's newly appointed skipper Shreyas Iyer has opened up on the humiliating results faced by the side in the T20I series against Ireland and England. The star middle-order batter believes that there were a lot of positives in the England T20Is despite the loss.

"We had a rough patch in England, but there were a lot of positives out of that. We got to know what we have to build as a team going forward, what kind of presence of mind, awareness and adaptability we need once we step onto the field," said Iyer.

This is going to be the first time that several Indian players will be playing in Zimbabwe, reacting to this the Indian skipper admitted that the entire team needs to find space in these conditions to find the best results.

"Some of us are playing here for the first time, so the quicker we adapt, the better results we will get," added Iyer.

How has Shreyas Iyer fared since becoming India's T20I skipper?

Since taking over the leadership duties in the T20I setup, Iyer has experienced a stark contrast between his personal performances with the bat and a very difficult start in terms of captaincy outcomes. Notably, Iyer's captaincy kicked off on a negative note as India endured back-to-back series loss against Ireland and England respectively.

With this, he set an unwanted record for the worst-ever start by any Indian T20I captain, remaining winless in his first seven games in charge. With the bat, Iyer emerged as India's best batter in the five-game series against Ireland, scoring 218 runs at an average of 72.66 and an impressive strike rate of 157.97.
