Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru suffered a 1-run defeat against Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata Knight Riders in match 36 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Eden Gardens, on April 21 (Sunday). However, Virat Kohli's dismissal was the most controversial point in the clash of IPL rivals. After the match, Kohli's RCB teammate Reece Topley spoke on the dismissal and referred to it as a ‘grey area’ in the game of cricket.
During the match, Virat's innings was put to an end by Harshit Rana with a high full toss. Kohli straight away used DRS. However, as per the latest technology, it would have been a legal delivery if Kohli was not out of his crease. The Indian batting maestro was highly disappointed with the decision and was also seen having an agitated discussion with the on-field umpires before leaving the field.
Topley on Virat Kohli's dismissal
Kohli's RCB teammate Reece Topley was not part of the playing XI during the KKR vs RCB clash. However, depicting his view on the decision did agree that Kohli was outside crease but also said that the ball was way over his hip high.
"Obviously, those measurements are brought in to get rid of a grey area, and then you have something today that no one had thought of. He (Kohli) was obviously out of his crease and the ball was over his hip high, then obviously he was out of his crease down the wicket," said Topley in the post-match press conference.
"The measurement was taken with Virat inside the crease so it's a bit of a grey area. Obviously, it's fine margin and would be spoken about in a game where the victory margin is just one run," he added.
Topley on RCB campaign
After their 7th loss of the season, the fan-favorite franchise has practically ended their chances to make it into the playoffs of the IPL 2024. Topley spoke on their campaign and added that the team is disappointed with their performances but would like to end this tournament on high.
"It's not absolute. We go about every game like we are going to win it and try the best of ourselves. We can finish with seven games and look back and say it was a respectful campaign," said Topley.
