The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will start with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Chennai on March 22.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the IPL schedule for the first two weeks of IPL 2024 till April 7. During this period, there will be 21 matches will be played across 10 cities, with each team playing between three to five matches. The second phase of the tournament will announced later.

The BCCI will collaborate with government and security agencies to ensure compliance with all necessary guidelines, especially those concerning the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

As the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are announced, the BCCI is in coordination with local authorities to finalise the remaining season's schedule, taking into account the polling dates.

RCB's IPL drought

Talking about RCB's track record, Over the years, the Bengaluru-based franchise has been one of the teams without the IPL trophy in their collection, despite having many superstar cricketers on their roster. However, they were the runners-up in 2019, 2011, and 2016.

Virat Kohli was the longest-serving captain in RCB history. In 2022, Faf du Plessis succeeded him and is the current captain of the franchise.
