De Villiers played a stunning knock of 120 runs in WCL final

Legendary South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn made a massive claim about AB de Villiers following the latter's phenomenal knock of 120 against the Pakistan Champions in the final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. This incredible batting display carried the South Africa Champions to a 9-wicket victory which saw them win the second edition of WCL. Notably, India Champions had won the ffirst edition of the tournment by defeating England Champions in the final.

De Villiers played a scintillating knock in the final

De Villiers, who announced his retirement from international cricket back in 2018, brought up his century in just 40 deliveries. This was the batter's third century of the tournament and it came when his side needed it the most. De Villiers was assisted well by JP Duminy, who scored an unbeaten 50 as South Africa Champions easily chased down the target of 196 in just 16.5 overs.

After de Villiers was adjudged as both the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in the post-match ceremony, Steyn took to social media to make an audacious claim. He stated that de Villiers is still better than half of the international players who feature in IPL.

"Unpopular/Popular opinion. Ab is still better than half the internationals at IPL. Maybe even more," Steyn posted on X.

Coming to the match, Sharjeel Khan's valiant knock of 76 alongside cameos from Umar Amin (36) and Asif Ali (28) got Pakistan Champions to a great total of 195/5 in 20 overs. In reply, de Villiers formed an important 72-run opening stand alongside Hashim Amla. Duminy took the crease when the latter departed on 18 and guided the South Africa Champions to a comfortable victory at Edgbaston. De Villiers was undoubtedly the top performer of the day and of the entire tournament as well, playing nothing short of a humongous role in the side winning the WCL title.
