Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has blamed Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav for Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians' loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in match 60 of IPL 2024 at the Eden Gardens, on May 12 (Saturday). He said you can't have an ego when you come out to bat and that MI could have won that match if both of them hadn't lost their wickets.

Virender Sehwag slams Rohit and Surya

Sehwag said Rohit and Surya could have finished the match an over before and told them to at least respect the good deliveries if they can't respect the bowler.

"Whoever bowls good, just play him out. If two wickets hadn’t fallen, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav could’ve finished the match an over before. Vaibhav Arora, Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell and Harshit Rana had to ball anyway; if they played out the spinners and didn’t lose the wickets, they would’ve won the game. You can’t have an ego when you come out to bat. You play them out or punish the loose deliveries," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Naman Dhir came right at the end and smashed two sixes and a four; if Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were set at that time, they would’ve hit 5 balls for boundaries. You could be Rohit Sharma or Suryakumar Yadav, but at least respect the delivery if you can’t respect the bowler. The ball on which Rohit Sharma got out wasn’t a weak ball. No doubt Rohit and Suryakumar are great players, but that doesn’t mean you should hit the good deliveries, too," he added.

MI suffer 9th loss of this season

Both Rohit and Surya got out after getting set and spending some good time on the pitch. If only they had played a better innings MI could have picked up a comfortable victory. Ishan Kishan smashed 40 runs off just 22 balls and provided his team with the perfect start in the chase but Rohit's 19 off 24 balls and Surya's 11 off 14 funneled down the runs and brought KKR back in the match.

Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir played some really great cameos but they were not enough as the Knights kept on taking wickets at regular intervals and snatched the victory away from the five-time champions. KKR now have become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.
