Former Gujarat Titans pacer Yash Dayal opened up on the emotional struggle he underwent after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh whacked him for five sixes in the last over of a match in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dayal, who was picked by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the 2024 IPL, recalled the horror time after he bowled exceedingly well in the match against the Punjab Kings on March 26 (Monday).
Yash Dayal revisits old wounds
In a chat with teammate Mohammed Siraj, Dayal revealed that he was advised by people to not check social media after being hit for five sixes. Dayal added that he did check a few comments, spoke to his family, and admitted to being 'hurting'. Dayal also spoke about how he came back from the incident through his mental fortitude.
"After that match, when I returned to the dressing room, I felt very bad. I was told not to check social media. But, I did check a few comments. I spoke to my family and I was hurting, thinking what people would be thinking about me after that was over. In the next two days, I fell ill. It took some time for me to recover and return and focus on playing games," Yash Dayal told IPL.
"But then, I realised that I am not the first person to experience this and I won't be the last. So I put it behind and started focusing on the process again. I thought returning to a high-pressure environment would only make me tackle the situation," he added.
Dayal bagged a wicket against the Punjab Kings on Monday in his spell of four overs and conceded just 23 runs at a venue that is known as a bowlers' nightmare. Dayal would look to bury the old wounds with success in the new season.Ā
