Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has decided to throw his name into the auction bucket for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star was not a part of the blockbuster league for the last six years and has now decided to be part of it.

“I’ve got two days to get my paperwork in, so that might be something to do today before training. I’ve not put my name down just yet, but I’ve got a couple more days to decide on that. It’s certainly on the table regardless of what the schedule has got coming up," Starc said in a conversation with cricket.com.au.

“I haven’t been for six years or so. Obviously, with a heavy weighting towards T20s over the last period of time and the World Cup coming up later this year, that’s one to take into consideration as well. There’s a bit going on with scheduling and what-not to get our heads around, certainly for us multi-format players,” he added.

Aim for 2022 T20 WC
31-year-old Starc, is targeting a place in the 2022 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by Australia. The seamer from New South Wales has been a significant contributor to Australia's recent success in the Ashes Test series but wants to be part of the shortest format to stamp his authority. The left-arm seamer was named 'Man of the Tournament' in the 2015 ODI World Cup and is an experienced campaigner to have in the team.

With two more additions to the roster of IPL teams for the 2022 season, Starc's chances of going unnoticed will be rare. The 1.96-meter tall pacer has 60 wickets in T20I format and was a vital member of the Australia squad that had lifted its maiden World Cup trophy in November 2021.

He has 34 wickets in 27 IPL matches and will try to add some more wickets to his tally in the upcoming season.

The IPL auctions are due to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. The news was confirmed by IPL chairman Brijesh Patel after a Governing Council meeting was held on Tuesday (January 11). The IPL will also have a new sponsor as VIVO will be replaced by Indian-based brand TATA.
