Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were back to their worst form when they took on Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday, May 12. The defending champions were condemned to a five-wicket loss, and effectively ended their chances of reaching the playoffs after subpar performances at the start of the season.
Batting first, CSK were bundled out for just 97 as Daniel Sams returned for MI with three wickets. None of the CSK batters were able to stay at the crease and build a base, and only one player in skipper MS Dhoni managed to put on 36 runs for his team.
After their innings, former India batter Yuvraj Singh trolled former teammate Suresh Raina over the side's poor batting performance. Raina was associated with CSK for a long time but was neither retained nor bought by CSK at the IPL 2022 mega auction. In an Instagram story posted by Yuvraj, the former left-handed India batter said to Raina: "Your team has been bundled out for 97 today. What will you say about that?"
To Yuvraj's question, Raina replied: "I have not seen the match Paaji."
Raina was one of the main batters for CSK but was not retained by the side ahead of the IPL 2022 season. The left-handed batter did not find any takers in the mega auction as well. The veteran India batter has 5,528 runs to his name.
Before the start of IPL 2022, Dhoni stepped down as CSK skipper and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was given the reins of the team. However, eight games into the season, the captaincy was given back to Dhoni as Jadeja wanted to focus on his own game while CSK were stuck at the bottom of the IPL 2022 points table.
Since then, Jadeja has been ruled out of the ongoing season due to an injury. Meanwhile, CSK are currently ninth in the IPL 2022 points table with eight points in 12 games.
