The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is considered to be the biggest platform for building stars for the future. Every season, more than one performer from the IPL have gone on to make their name in world cricket via this league.

But there are many players who also do not even get a chance to debut in the star-studded team and keep waiting on the bench. Something similar happened with Swapnil Singh, who came from Baroda and was a part of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2008. After 15 years, he has now been able to play the second match of his IPL career.

And now, he has made his debut with LSG, six years after making his debut for the Kings XI Punjab.

Seven runs in one over
Against Gujarat Titans (GT), all the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowlers were getting thrashed in Ahmedabad. Captain Krunal Pandya also asked left-arm spin bowler Swapnil Singh to bowl one over. After waiting for 15 years on the IPL bench, Swapnil bowled the first over of his IPL career for Lucknow and conceded only 7 runs.

This was his second appearance in the IPL, despite being in the Mumbai Indians squad in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. His dream of playing in this league after 15 years, which started with MI, came true again when LSG came calling at the auctions. Swapnil had the lowest economy rate among all the bowlers of LSG against GT.

Talking about Swapnil Singh, he used to play in Lucknow but later his entire family shifted to Baroda where he continued to play domestic cricket. Playing in various age groups like U14, U17, and U19, Swapnil very soon made a place in Baroda's Ranji team. He is also the youngest player in India to play in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 14. While living in Baroda, he also learned a lot from former India bowler Irfan Pathan and currently Deepak Hooda.

Hooda supported his entry into LSG
Swapnil Singh was continuously rocking domestic cricket, which led to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) including him in their team in their IPL 2016 and 2017 seasons. But he got to play only one match.

After 6 years, Lucknow included Swapnil in the team as a net bowler in IPL 2022. He is close to his LSG teammate Deepak Hooda and both are also good friends. Hooda was crucial in bringing him into the Lucknow team. Swapnil, who started his journey as a net bowler for Lucknow in IPL 2022, finally made his debut for the team, at the age of 32 and his name came in front of everyone. Swapnil has so far taken 174 wickets in 70 first-class matches in domestic cricket, 67 wickets in 61 List-A matches and 58 wickets in 67 T20 matches.
