IPL 2023 Orange Cap: Virat Kohli scales to 3rd place after registering third half-century in ongoing season

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 21 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 16 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition. Four teams are currently tied on six points while last year's runners-up Rajasthan Royals are in pole position.

On April 15 (Saturday), the cash-rich tournament witnessed two matches. In the first game, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Delhi Capitals while in the second match, Punjab Kings downed Lucknow Super Giants in a close encounter. When it comes to the race for Orange Cap, Shikhar Dhawan continues to be at the top but after another half-century knock, Virat Kohli has closed the gap on the Punjab skipper.

1. Shikhar Dhawan: The Punjab Kings skipper has aggregated 233 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 146. The southpaw is currently averaging 116 in the ongoing season as he has only been dismissed two times in four innings.

2. David Warner: The Delhi Capitals' captain has registered 228 runs in five matches so far at a strike rate of 116.92 and an average of 45.60.

3. Virat Kohli: The former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper and maverick batter, Virat Kohli has scored 214 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 147.59 and an average of 71.33.

4. Jos Buttler: The swashbuckling right-handed batter has so far scored 204 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 170 and an average of 51.

5. Rututaj Gaikwad: The right-handed batter has so far scored 197 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 155.12 and an average of 65.67.

Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis is tied with Gaikwad. Both batters have scored 197 runs in the competition thus far.
