In a do or die match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) took on already ousted Delhi Capitals (DC) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Wednesday (May 17). PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and invited David Warner's brigade to bat first. However, the decision to bowl first backfired Punjab as the underfire Prithvi Shaw with Warner alongside gave DC a cracking start. First they notched 61 runs in the powerplay overs and then followed it up with 91-run partnership in the first half of the DC's innings. Both the opener belted PBKS bowlers left, right and centre including Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada.

Warner got a reprieve on the score of 39 as Rahul Chahar dropped his catch off Nathan Ellis' bowling. But just when it looked like the pair are set for a big knock, Warner launched another big hit off Sam Curran's bowling but the ball only found the elevation not the distance. PBKS skipper chased the ball and ran across from cover and took a full stretch jawdropping dive catch to get rid of David Warner on 46. Right after completing the stunning catch, Dhawan celebrated Warner's wicket in his own thigh-five way.

Warner cracked 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 31-ball knock before returning to pavilion and left DC’s score at 10.2 overs was 94/1. Shaw too followed Warner's path and was Curran, who struck back in the 15th over. Shaw whacked 54 off 38 which was studded with seven fours and a maximum.

After Warner, Shaw's dismissals, Rilee Rossouw unleashed the beast in him and hammered a scintillating 82 off 37 riding on six fours and as many sixed to power DC to a poweful total of 213/2.

Earlier, Dhawa won the toss and elected to bat first.

“We will bowl first. It is a new track. We will see how it goes. Destiny is in our hands. Just gonna come and enjoy this evening. Just to stay calm and focus on your process. We have two changes. Atharva Taide in for Rishi Dhawan, and Kagiso Rabada in for Sikandar Raza,” PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan after winning the toss.

“We would have bowled first. There is some dew. It should play the same for the entire 40 overs. We have a great lead up to this game thanks to this spectacular venue. Anrich Nortje and Prtivhi Shaw are back for DC. Mitch Marsh is out injured. Dubey makes way for Shaw,” DC skipper David Warner said after the toss.
