No stadium's boundary is big enough to stop Kieron Pollard for a six. However, in this case, the stadium was too small for massive sixes from former West Indies skipper. Pollard wreaked havoc at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and one of his sixes went out of the stadium and landed on the street. This led to one of the fan picking up the ball and keeping it as a souvenir whereas the other threw it back to the stadium.
In the 18th over, Dan Mousley hit a six over square leg that went out of the stadium and onto the road. The fan crossed the road, picked up the ball and left. The ecstatic fan also showed his new-found prized possession to a person in the car that stopped on the road.
The second incident took place in the penultimate over of MI Emirates’ innings. Desert Vipers bowler Tom Curran bowled one in the skipper’s arc and he whacked it over deep mid-wicket and out of the ground. But this time around the fan picked up the ball, crossed the road and threw the ball back to the stadium. The league’s official Twitter handle shared the video with reading, “When it's raining sixes, there are 2 types of cricket lovers..”
Pollard was in stupendous form on January 29 as he hit Curran for three sixes and two fours. He came into bat in the 13th over at no.3 and completed his half-century from just 19 deliveries. He reached the milestone with a six off Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana. It is also the joint-fastest fifty of the tournament so far.
Before Pollard's whirlwind knock, openers Andre Fletcher and Muhammad Waseem shared a 141-run partnership. Fletcher scored 50 runs from 30 deliveries whereas Waseem went berserk and smashed 86 runs from just 44 deliveries including 11 fours and four sixes.
With Pollard's 19-ball fifty and Mousley's 17-ball 31 cameo, MI Emirates posted a mammoth total of 241/3. Vipers failed to put up a fight as they got bundled out for 84 in 12.1 overs and lost the game by a massive margin of 157 runs. Afghan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi was the pick of the pacers with three wickets for 13 runs in three overs he bowled. Only three Vipers batters managed to score in double digits.
