2 centuries and no fifties in T20s to 69-ball 149 in One-Day run chase: All you need to know about Glenn Maxwell's replacement Mitchell Owen

On May 4, Punjab Kings (PBKS) announced a 23-year-old Australian batting all-rounder Mitchell Owen as replacement for Glenn Maxwell who is ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a broken finger. 
 

PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting was impressed by Owen's big-hitting. Earlier this year, he backed him to replace an injured Mitchell Marsh in Australia's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad. 
 

Mitchell Owen had a breakthrough BBL 2024-25 season for Hobart Hurricanes. He scored 108 runs from just 42 balls in the final against Sydney Thunder. He scored 452 runs from 11 innings at an average of 45.20 including two centuries. His strike rate is 203.60.

Whenever Mitchell Owen has crossed the fifty-run mark in T20s, he has converted it to 100. He was picked by Paarl Royals for SA20 2024/25. He scored just 14 runs from three games and claimed two wickets.
 

Then, Mitchell Owen was roped in by Peshawar Zalmi as replacement for Corbin Bosch who left Pakistan Super League (PSL) to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL. Under Babar Azam, he has scored 101 runs from six innings. His strike rate in the ongoing tournament is 198.03.
 

Earlier this year, during Champions Trophy 2025, Mitchell Owen scored 149 runs from just 69 balls for Tasmania in the run chase against South Australia in Australia's domestic One-Day Cup. He hit 10 sixes and 14 fours in his sensational knock.
 

Mitchell Owen has been roped in for Rs 3 crore. However, it is not clear when the Australian all-rounder be able to join Punjab Kings squad. If Peshawar Zalmi fail to qualify for playoffs, he will join PBKS on May 10 or later.
