Ashutosh Sharma ran riot with a spellbinding century on his English club cricket debut

Delhi Capitals' explosive batter smashed a 70-ball century for Wigan Cricket Club

Ashutosh Sharma, after shining for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025, continued his explosive batting on his English Club Cricket debut. Ashutosh Sharma joined Wigan Cricket Club for the 2025 season in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, which is part of the ECB Premier League structure. The stylish batter took no time to make his presence felt on his debut on May 31, smashing a century while batting at number five against Formby CC.

Coming to the crease with his team struggling at 17/3 after 9.5 overs, Ashutosh, alongside opener Aveen Dalugod, forged a crucial 153-run partnership in just 23.4 overs. Ashutosh's aggressive innings, featuring eight fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 136.99, rescued his team from a perilous position. He reached his hundred off a mere 70 balls. However, he was dismissed without adding another run in the 34th over. His departure triggered another collapse, as Wigan went from a comfortable 170-3 to a shaky 195-7 after 41 overs.

Ashutosh arrived in the UK only this morning, directly impacting his new club. He's fresh off a breakout IPL season last year where he scored 189 runs with an impressive strike rate of 167.25. This year, after being acquired by Delhi Capitals from Punjab Kings, he continued his strong form, accumulating 204 runs at an average of 29.14 and a strike rate of 160.62 in the 2025 IPL.

The Delhi Capitals' failure to qualify for the IPL playoffs provided Ashutosh with the opportunity to travel to England for this fixture. Ashutosh brings a solid professional cricket background, having played 14 List A games and 44 T20 matches. While he's yet to score a hundred in white-ball professional cricket, he does have experience in eight first-class games, boasting an average of 28.46 and a high score of 123.

Ashutosh isn't the only Indian cricketer making an appearance in English club cricket this summer. Earlier, KS Bharat, who went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction, signed with Dulwich CC for the Surrey Championship. He made a big impact on his debut, scoring 134 runs off 108 balls, contributing to his side's total of 318/8 against Esher CC.
