Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that former India captain Virat Kohli deserves the credit for the transformation in India's Test team. Kohli led India in 68 Test matches, winning 40, and that makes him the most successful Test captain for India. He has a winning percentage of 58.82, which is among the best for Test captains globally. India registered their first-ever Test series win in Australia and England under Kohli's captaincy.
Bhuvneshwar believes that Kohli's aggressive nature in Test cricket is the reason behind the team's performance.
"The way Virat captained in the Test cricket, I will give credit that the way transformation happened - All credit goes to Virat, I think the reason for that is the nature of Virat on the ground, he is agressive, in Test cricket and you need that nature because it goes 5 days - that passion rubbed onto everyone" said Bhuvneshwar Kumar in RCB podcast.
Kohli is currently featuring alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and the franchise has had a dream season so far. The Bengaluru-based franchise is currently second in the points table with eight wins in 11 matches and has almost reached the playoffs.
Kohli is currently amongst the highest run-getters in the tournament, scoring 505 runs, just 10 runs shy of the current Orange Cap holder Suryakumar Yadav. On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also picked up 12 wickets in his 10 outings of the cash-rich league.
RCB will now face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the 59th match of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place on May 9 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
After IPL 2025, Kohli will join Team India for the upcoming five-Test match series against England, which is scheduled to take place from June 20. This will be India's first red-ball assignment after a huimiliating 3-1 defeat in Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
