Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legendary captain MS Dhoni has opened up about when he would retire from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. On April 5, the speculations about Dhoni's retirement were rife as his parents came to watch the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. In the podcast which is pre-recorded, Dhoni said that his body will decide when he retires, not him and he is taking it one year at a time.
"No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I would play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that," Dhoni said in the podcast posted on his official YouTube channel 'Dhoni'.
In CSK's recent home clash, Dhoni walked out to bat in the 11th over as the home team lost half the side. Dhoni struggled to find boundaries and remained unbeaten for 30 off 26 balls as CSK lost the match by 25 runs. He managed to hit just one four and a six in his knock. CSK could not even get close to the target. He missed a free hit delivery from Mohit Sharma as well.

CSK head coach on Dhoni's retirement
After the defeat, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming also put an end to retirement speculations. Fleming said that he does not ask him about hanging the boots.
“No, that's not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him. He's still going strong. I don't even ask these days. You are the ones who ask,” the former New Zealand captain told the reporters in the post-match press conference.

What Dhoni said about retirement before IPL 2025
Before the IPL 2025 kicked off, Dhoni said that he is looking to enjoy cricket and will continue to do so.
"I've retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I've been doing in the meantime is just wanting to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years I will be able to play," Dhoni said at an event.
“I want to enjoy it, as I did as a child when I was in school. When I lived in a colony, 4 p.m. was sports time, so we’d go and play cricket more often than not. But if the weather doesn’t permit, we used to play football. I want to play with the same kind of innocence (but it is) easier said than done,” he added.
Dhoni's run in IPL 2025
So far, Dhoni has scored 76 runs from four innings and only been dismissed once. In the unsuccessful run chase against RCB, he remained unbeaten for a 16-ball 30. He also faced criticism for walking out to bat at no.9.
