Notably, MS Dhoni has retired from all forms of international cricket, and the legendary wicketkeeper-batter also left captaincy for the Chennai Super Kings before the IPL 2024 but he was reappointed as stand in captain during the last edition of the tournament after the regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury before being ruled out from the competition. CSK had a forgettable season and finished at the bottom of the team standings, and thus not qualifying for the playoffs for a second successive year.
