India will play a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting from January 11

Former India captain Rohit Sharma is on the verge of notching up a towering milestone in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Needing just 87 more runs to reach a career milestone, Rohit is all set to join Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid in an elite list.

All eyes on Rohit Sharma in India vs New Zealand ODI series

Right ahead of the New Zealand series, Rohit recently featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai. He dominated in his opening match with a brilliant match-winning 155 against Sikkim, but faced a setback in the following game against Uttarakhand, where he was dismissed for a duck. After this brief domestic spell, he is currently taking a short break before leading the charge in the first ODI against New Zealand on January 11.

Rohit wasn't the only veteran finding his rhythm in domestic cricket, Virat Kohli also suited up for two matches to sharpen his form. Kohli showed impressive consistency, smashing a century against Andhra Pradesh before following it up with a decisive, match-winning half-century against Gujarat.

Rohit Sharma on brink of completing 14000 List A runs in New Zealand series

Rohit is nearing the 14,000-run mark in List A cricket. Currently sitting at 13,913 runs across 340 innings, the veteran opener needs just 87 more runs to reach the milestone. His journey in the 50-over format began nearly two decades ago with a modest unbeaten 31 during his List A debut for West Zone in the 2006 Deodhar Trophy, followed by his international ODI debut just one year later.

Of his vast List A tally, Rohit has amassed 11,516 runs in the ODI format alone, highlighted by his record-breaking three double-centuries. Beyond his individual scoring prowess, his leadership has defined a significant era for the Men in Blue. Captaining the side from 2022 to 2025, Rohit led India to a clinical victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy and guided the team to the final of the 2023 ICC World Cup.

Once he crosses the threshold, Rohit will join an exclusive club of Indian batting greats. Leading this elite group is Sachin Tendulkar, who concluded his storied career with a staggering 21,999 List A runs. Tendulkar’s final appearance in the format came against Pakistan in March 2012, shortly before he stepped away from ODIs later that year and eventually retired from all international cricket in late 2013.
