BCCI haven't announced the India's ODI squad for the New Zealand series

India and New Zealand are scheduled to play three-match ODI series

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce India's ODI squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. Reportedly, India's squad for three-match ODI series is expected to be revealed in the first week of January.

When will India's ODI squad for New Zealand series announced?

This follows a dominant white-ball campaign against South Africa, where the Men in Blue secured convincing victories in both the ODI and T20I formats. The focus now shifts to the home series against the Black Caps, which features three ODIs and five T20Is, beginning on January 11.

While the T20I squad for the New Zealand series, which also serves as the roster for next year's T20 World Cup, has already been confirmed, the ODI selection remains pending. Recent reports suggest that the national selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, may finalize and reveal the ODI squad on either January 3 or 4 via an online meeting.

The upcoming series is particularly significant as it likely marks the return of senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the ODI setup. Both legends, along with several other international regulars, are currently maintaining their match fitness by participating in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

While New Zealand has already named a somewhat experimental squad led by Michael Bracewell for the ODIs, India is expected to field a full-strength side. The announcement will be closely watched for updates on the fitness of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom are looking to solidify their roles ahead of a busy international calendar.

As the BCCI prepares to finalise the roster for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, the focus is squarely on the return of Shubman Gill. After a challenging period where he was dropped from the T20 World Cup squad following struggles in the Asia Cup and against South Africa, Gill’s position in the white-ball setup has been a major talking point. Having recently recovered from a serious neck injury that sidelined him during the South Africa tour, all eyes are on whether the selectors will re-induct him as the designated ODI captain.

In stark contrast to Gill’s recent setbacks, several veteran stars are making a loud case for themselves through their performances in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both been in vintage form, recently smashing centuries for Delhi and Mumbai respectively to silence any doubts about their rhythm. Their "red-hot" streak is a significant boost for India as they transition from the South Africa series to the New Zealand challenge starting January 11.

Adding to the selection headache is the explosive form of Ishan Kishan, who recently set the domestic circuit ablaze with a record-breaking 33-ball century for Jharkhand. With Kishan, Kohli, and Rohit all scoring at will, the Indian top order looks formidable. The upcoming squad announcement, expected around January 3 or 4, will reveal how the team management balances these surging veteran performances with the return of their young leader.
