Bashir reached his 50-wicket milestone by dismissing Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine in the 21st over. Earlier, Sam Cook provided England with their first breakthrough, getting Ben Curran out for just 6 runs. Ervine and Brian Bennett then consolidated the innings with a partnership exceeding fifty runs.

However, before the pair could establish a strong position for Zimbabwe, Shoaib Bashir broke the partnership by dismissing Ervine for 42 runs. This wicket marked Bashir's 50th in Test cricket, achieved in his 16th Test match at the age of 21 years and 222 days.
