Let bat do all the talking: Sarfaraz Khan answers Test snub with another roaring century in Ranji Trophy
Four days after getting snubbed by the selection committee for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in-form Sarfaraz Khan delivered a resounding statement, the sound of which echoed in every corner of the Indian cricket fraternity. The stylish right-handed roared once again as he smacked an attractive century during Mumbai's Ranji Trophy match against Delhi on January 17 (Tuesday). Sarfaraz walked out to bat when Mumbai was in a precarious position at 62/3 which soon became 66/4. Having lost Prithvi Shaw (40) and Ajinkya Rahane (2) cheaply, Mumbai were staring at a collapse.
From thereon, Sarfaraz took control of the situation and eased the nerves in the dressing room. The 25-year-old reached the three-figure mark with the help of 14 fours and two sixes. The right-handed batter celebrated the century as if he was letting out all the frustration after being snubbed by the selection committee for a place in the Indian Test team. This was Sarfaraz's third century of the season to go with one half-century.
Sarfaraz has had a phenomenal First-Class record in the past few years. He is even called 'India ka Bradman' for his stupendous average in red-ball cricket. Before the game against Delhi, he aggregated 3,380 runs from 52 innings at an average of 80.47 including 12 centuries and nine half-centuries.
Recently, the Mumbai batter talked about the hard work he put in to continue his consistent run in the format. He revealed he also had a chat with chief selector Chetan Sharma few weeks ago and was told that he would be selected in near future. However, when he did not see his name in Board of Control for Cricket's (BCCI) tweet announcing the Test side it left him shattered.
"I was sad not to see the name. But it is not in my hands. I have been doing everything I can. Din ko din aur raat ko raat nahi samjha (I have been working day and night). I’m just practising day in and day out. When I was growing up, we at home felt was I going to find a place in the Mumbai Ranji team. Now, we are talking about when I will find a place in the Indian team. So I have progressed," Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
