Shivam Mavi broke Uttar Pradesh batters' back with his sizzling seven-for as Vidarbha dominate Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A clash on January 30. After UP was dismissed for 237 on the opening day, largely due to a six-wicket haul by Vidarbha skipper Harsh Dubey, Mavi responded in kind. Mavi, who will be representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026, dismantled the Vidarbha lineup with a fiery spell of 7/59 across 18 overs, remarkably bowling them out for exactly 237 runs and leaving the first-innings scores deadlocked.

Despite Mavi’s dominance, Vidarbha managed to stay competitive thanks to two crucial half-centuries. Danish Malewar anchored the innings with a fluent 80, while Nachiket Bhute contributed a brisk 63 to ensure the side didn't collapse prematurely. By the close of play, Uttar Pradesh had reached 75/2 in their second innings, with captain Aryan Juyal and Aaditya Sharma remaining unbeaten to establish a narrow lead heading into the third day.

MP leave Maharashtra reeling
Meanwhile, in Group B action at Indore, the momentum swung sharply in favor of Madhya Pradesh. After being bowled out for 187 on Day 1, MP clawed back through a masterful performance from Kumar Kartikeya, whose 6/33 left the Maharashtra batters searching for answers.
Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored for Maharashtra with 46, but the team was eventually bundled out for 179, handing Madhya Pradesh a slim eight-run first-innings lead. Madhya Pradesh capitalized on that momentum during their second turn at the crease, ending the day in a commanding position at 166/4. The charge was led by Venkatesh Iyer, who smashed a rapid 60 off 60 balls, and Shubham Sharma, who played a more measured knock of 55. With a total lead of 174 runs already in the bank, MP looks poised to set a challenging target for Maharashtra on Day 3.

In the Group B showdown at Mohali, Karnataka find themselves in a challenging position as they attempt to chase down Punjab's first-innings total. After Punjab elected to bat and posted a competitive 309, Karnataka ended the day trailing by 54 runs. KL Rahul was the mainstay of the innings, scoring a composed 59 off 87 balls, while Mayank Agarwal provided a brisk start with 46 before failing to convert it into a larger score. However, the rest of the top order struggled, as captain Devdutt Padikkal and Ravichandran Smaran were both dismissed for single digits.
Punjab's bowling effort was spearheaded by Harpreet Brar, who claimed 4/101 to keep the pressure on the visitors. Earlier in the match, Punjab's solid total was built on the back of two significant contributions: Emanjot Singh Chahal led the way with a gritty 83, supported closely by Abhijeet Garg’s 81. For Karnataka, Vidyadhar Patil was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with figures of 4/52 in an attempt to contain the Punjab batters.
