Left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will turn out for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 quarterfinal against Karnataka. The 42-time champions are set to face Karnataka in the fourth quarterfinal of the season, which is scheduled to take place from February 6 to 9.
Jasiwal's last cricketing outing
Jaiswal, who is currently India’s highest-ranked Test batter, is not part of India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The 24-year-old last played a competitive match on January 6, 2026, when he represented Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Himachal Pradesh in Jaipur.
He had missed Mumbai’s previous two Elite Group D Ranji Trophy matches against Hyderabad and Delhi but will return to open the innings against the Devdutt Padikkal-led Karnataka side.
Jasiwal's last Ranji outing
Jaiswal’s last Ranji Trophy appearance came in early November 2025 against Rajasthan in Jaipur, where he impressed with scores of 67 and 156 across the two innings.
Shardul Thakur to lead Mumbai
Mumbai have also received a boost with the return of Shardul Thakur. The Palghar all-rounder had missed the last two Ranji matches after picking up an injury during Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy game against Maharashtra on January 3, 2026, also in Jaipur.
Shardul, who took over the captaincy from Ajinkya Rahane before the start of the season, will lead Mumbai in the quarterfinal clash.
Ajinkya Rahane to miss quarterfinals
However, experienced batter and former Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane is not part of the squad for this match. The 37-year-old last played for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy game against Himachal Pradesh at home between November 8 and 10, 2025, where he managed just 2 runs in the first innings.
Rahane featured in four matches for Mumbai this season and scored 209 runs in six innings, including one century.
Mumbai’s squad for the quarterfinal also includes in-form Siddhesh Lad, who has scored five centuries this season, along with Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and Tushar Deshpande.
