Prithvi Shaw is all set to return to cricket ground as he has been included in Mumbai's squad for their Ranji Trophy Group B match against Bengal which is scheduled to take place in Kolkata from February 2, Friday. Prithvi Shaw was sidelined for almost five months after picking injury during English One-Day Championship match last year.
The star opening batter has been in recovery since sustaining a significant knee injury in August last year, during a match between Northamptonshire and Durham in the English One-Day championship. He has been diligently working on his rehabilitation with the National Cricket Academy's medical team in Bengaluru.
NCA declares Prithvi Shaw fit
But now that Prithvi has been declared fit by NCA, he is all set to return to cricket field and will look to impress with his batting heroics in Mumbai vs Bengal's Ranji Trophy match.
“Once the NCA notified to us of Prithvi having been cleared fit, the selection committee has added him to the squad for the next Ranji Trophy game,” said Ajinkya Naik, the Mumbai Cricket Association secretary.
Talking about Mumbai's performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, they are currently leading their group. They will have a 16-player team in Kolkata, led by captain Ajinkya Rahane and vice-captain Shams Mulani. Given that Bhupen Lalwani is Mumbai’s leading run-scorer this season with 314 runs, it is highly probable that Prithvi Shaw will replace Jay Bista, who has shown inconsistency as an opener.
Notably, the 24-year-old Prithvi has played for India in five Test matches, six One Day Internationals, and a single T20 International. His most recent appearance for India was on July 25, 2021, in his sole T20I game to date, which was against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
