Star Sunrisers Hyderabad player Abdul Samad wrote history for Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy, on October 21. The young batter made history by becoming the first J & K batter to score two hundred in the same match in the primary domestic first-class tournament. At the Barabati Stadium, the SRH player dominated Odisha, putting his team in a strong position during the last day's morning session.
Abdul Samad's twin hundred
In the second innings, Abdul Samad struck six sixes and five boundaries to score a run-a-ball 108 while batting with purpose and pace. On the last day, Samad's blitz enabled Jammu and Kashmir to declare at 270 for 7 and invite Odisha to bat. After 10 overs, J & K had Odisha reeling at 14 for 3. They set them a target of 269 runs. With his outstanding performance in the second innings, Abdul Samad stood out among the Jammu and Kashmir batters, none of whom reached the fifty mark.
The story in the first innings was also quite the same. Samad helped Jammu and Kashmir reach 270 with a score of 127 off just 117 balls, hammering nine sixes and six boundaries. In the first inning, none of the other batters apart from Samad even reached the 40-run mark.
Abdul Samad made up for his lack of performance against Maharashtra at home in their Ranji Trophy opener. Samad was dismissed for 23 in Srinagar, but J & K posted 519 for 7 in their first innings thanks to the 255 of Shubham Khajuria and the 106 of Shivansh Sharma.
Samad appears to have timed his two hundreds against Odisha to coincide with the rapidly approaching deadline for IPL 2025 retentions. The 22-year-old, who has previously been kept by SunRisers, is expected to be released and needs to continue adding to his Ranji Trophy total in order to attract interest from possible buyers for the November IPL mega auction. During the RanjI Trophy 2023–24 season, Samad amassed 276 runs in seven games for Jammu and Kashmir, including a hundred and fifty. This season, it appears that he is aiming for a large total.
