Indian Test captain Shubman Gill, who left the field midway during Day 2 of the 1st Test match against South Africa due to some neck issues, is most likely to be ruled out of the remainder of the Kolkata Test. The stylish batter left the field after scoring four runs. Sports Tak understands that he was taken to the hospital for further examination after the match.
Sources close to the development told Sports Tak that Gill is likely to miss the rest of the match after suffering an acute neck sprain while sweeping a ball from South Africa's Simon Harmer. He was first undergoing treatment in the dressing room, wearing a neck collar.

Morne Morkel on Shubman Gill's injury
India's bowling coach Morne Morkel also opened up on Shubman Gill's injury, he reckons that it was just a bad night's sleep. Notably, the star batter has been playing non-stop cricket across formats since leading India for the first time in the gruelling England Test series earlier this year, and has barely had any downtime, joining the side right after the Australia white-ball series that ended in Gabba.
“Gill is a very fit guy, he looks after himself very well, so it’s just unfortunate this morning that he woke up with a stiff neck and that carried him into the day, which was crucial for us. Another sort of partnership with him batting around was going to be needed for us at the time and... just bad timing.”
When Gill got injured
The incident happened during an eventful 35th over after the drinks break, where Harmer had moments before removed a well-set Washington Sundar for 29 off 82 balls with a classical off-spinner’s dismissal, the ball drifting and turning away to take the outside edge for Aiden Markram at slip.
