India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah created history in the first T20I against South Africa when he dismissed Dewald Brevis in the 11th over of the chase. That wicket helped him complete 100 T20I wickets, making him only the second Indian fast bowler, after Arshdeep Singh, to reach the milestone.
Bumrah becomes first Indian to reach this milestone
With this achievement, Bumrah also became the first Indian bowler ever to take 100 or more wickets in all three formats of international cricket. He now has 234 wickets in Tests, 149 in ODIs, and 102* in T20Is.
Interestingly, Bumrah went wicketless in his first two overs, but came back strongly in his third over, removing both Brevis and Keshav Maharaj to finish with two crucial breakthroughs. Notably, only five players have taken 100 wickets in all three international formats: Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Shakib Al Hasan, Shahid Afridi and now Jasprit Bumrah.
Hardik Pandya's brilliant comeback powers India 175/6 in 1st T20I
Hardik Pandya made a strong return to competitive cricket with a brilliant half-century that lifted India to 175/6 in the opening T20I against South Africa. Coming back after 74 days due to a left quadricep injury, he walked in at No. 6 and immediately shifted the momentum. With India losing early wickets, Pandya counter-attacked and finished unbeaten on 59 off 28 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes. His knock included big hits off Maharaj, Nortje and Sipamla, and powered India to 53 runs in the last five overs. India also made notable selection calls, including picking Jitesh Sharma over Sanju Samson.
