India's painful loss to Proteas ignited a fiery atmosphere within the Indian camp. This loss was particularly embarrassing as India had prepared a pitch specifically tailored to suit their strengths. Unfortunately, the wicket turned into a nightmare for the home side, as they crashed badly and failed to chase down the modest target of just 124 runs.

India drop to 4th in WTC points table

Notably, it was India's first defeat at the Eden Gardens in the longest format since 2012. India were forced to play the second innings without the services of skipper Shubman Gill. He had suffered a neck injury while batting in the first innings, and his absence proved to be incredibly costly for the team's performance.
