WTC 2025-27 Points Table: India slip one place after Eden Gardens defeat, South Africa rise to 2nd spot

Reigning WTC champions rose to 2nd spot.

India slipped to 4th spot with their 3rd defeat in the current cycle.

At Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India failed to chase down the target of 124, suffering their third defeat of the ongoing cycle. They slipped one place to fourth position on the points table with a win percentage of 54.17.

The Temba Bavuma-led South Africa rose to the second spot from fifth with a 30-run win. This is their first Test win on Indian soil in 15 years. Also, Bavuma maintained his record of not losing a Test as captain.

If India win the next Test, they will rise to the third spot. Also, South Africa will slip to the fourth spot. However, if India lose the second Test as well to fifth position, below Pakistan who have one win from two Tests.

Three teams winless in current WTC cycle

Bangladesh, West Indies and New Zealand are yet to open their win account. New Zealand are the only team who are yet to play a Test in the ongoing cycle. They will play their first Test series against Roston Chase-led West Indies. West Indies were whitewashed at home by Australia whereas Bangladesh lost and drew a Test each against Sri Lanka.

The top spot still belongs to Australia who have three wins from as many Tests. Their top spot will be challenged as they take on England in the Ashes 2025-26 opener in Perth without the services of captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Steve Smith.
