Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a successful return to the Indian team as he played against Sri Lanka in the first T20I on February 24 (Wednesday), in Lucknow.

Jadeja returns

Jadeja was last seen in action during the Kanpur Test against New Zealand, back in November 2021.

In the first T20I match of the three-match series, the southpaw faced three balls and score three runs (not out). Later, Jadeja picked up the crucial wicket of Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal (10 runs off 9 balls).

Chandimal came down the track to hit a shot in the 10th over of the innings but he failed to read Jadeja’s delivery and missed the ball completely and it resulted in Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan taking the bails off.

While talking about Jadeja’s return, skipper Rohit Sharma said that he is “very happy with Jadeja's return” and he wants him “to bat up the order more.”

Rohit speaks

"Very happy with Jadeja's return. We want more from him that is why we asked him to bat higher. You will see that happening more and more in the games that he plays for India. I want him to bat up the order more," said Rohit at the post-match presentation.

"He is a very improved batter, so we will try and see if we can promote him going forward. We are very clear with what we want to achieve with him in white ball cricket," skipper Rohit added.

On the other hand, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan played a splendid knock of 89 runs off 56 balls and helped the Indian team in reaching a solid total of 199 runs losing two wickets.

"I know Ishan for a long time now. I know the mindset he has. I know the ability he has as well. It was just about getting the kind of game that he had today. It was so pleasing to watch from the other end," said Rohit.

"The way he constructed the innings was so good, that is usually a challenge for him. We were talking in the middle about finding gaps.”

In reply, the visitors managed to reach a total of 137 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs and eventually they had to suffer a 62-run defeat.
