Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley has expressed the desire to host arch-rivals India and Pakistan for bilateral clashes considering the excitement around the matches of two Asian cricketing giants. He said they are willing to help but the final decision will have to be made by the cricket boards of both teams.
Cricket Australia wants to host IND vs PAK series
India and Pakistan have not faced each other in bilateral clashes since 2012-13. However, Cricket Australia is willing to host these series. However, there has been no official talk or agreement made yet from either side.
“Pakistan and India are traditional rival teams; there is a lot of excitement for their matches. To the extent that we'd be able to facilitate or help in that, we'd be very open to do so. However, the final decision rests with the respective cricket boards of India and Pakistan. Given the schedules, we haven't had formal discussions in that regard, but we have said it on the record that we will be happy to host the India vs. Pakistan bilateral series,” Hockley said in a media interaction.
Hockley wants to resume bilateral clashed with Afghanistan
After previously postponing their bilateral clashes with Afghanistan, Hockley has opened up on the desire to resume them. Australia have been in some really close contests with the Afghanistan team lately. They were in a really troublesome spot in the ODI World Cup 2023 before Maxwell's double-ton made the save but then they suffered a big loss in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 against the Afghan side.
"We hope for progress and will continue to discuss and maintain contact with the Afghanistan Cricket Board. They had a fantastic tournament with phenomenal players and played with great passion. Regarding our bilateral matches, we have consulted extensively with stakeholders, including the Australian government, and chose to postpone our last couple of series with Afghanistan on human rights grounds. We maintain a close relationship and regular dialogue with the Afghanistan Cricket Board and want to see cricket thrive worldwide for both men and women. We hope for progress and continue to discuss and maintain contact with the Afghanistan Cricket Board, aiming to resume bilateral cricket against Afghanistan in the future," Hockley said.
