CSK have announced their five retentions for IPL 2025

MS Dhoni has been retained by CSK under the uncapped player category.

Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained five players ahead of the mega auction. There was a lot of suspense around former captain MS Dhoni’s retention. Dhoni will continue to play for CSK. As per the new IPL rules, he will play as an uncapped player and has been retained for Rs 4 crore.

CSK have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad as their captain. Under his leadership, CSK missed the IPL 2024 playoffs spot by a whisker as they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. 

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been retained by the franchise as well.  CSK have decided to go with young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana ahead of Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

CSK’s retained players IPL 2024 numbers

Dhoni batted down the order and scored 161 runs from 11 innings at an average of 53.66. His strike rate was an astounding 220.54. Gaikwad was consistent in the top-order scoring 583 runs from 14 innings at an average of 53 including one century and four fifties. His strike rate was 141.16. Jadeja made use of the opportunities to bat slightly up the order. He scored 267 runs from 11 innings at an average of 44.50 including one fifty. His strike rate was a decent 142.78. Pathirana missed several games due to injury. From six games, he claimed 13 wickets at an average of 13. He bowled in death overs and still managed an economy rate of 7.68 runs per over.
