English legend Sir Geoffrey Boycott has revealed he has been diagnosed with throat cancer for a second time. Boycott who is 83 years old will undergo surgery after multiple scans. After his initial treatment he got to know about returning of cancer after two decades. Boycott is an English legend who has been treated with cancer in 2002 where he had to go through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
In a statement to British’s Daily Telegraph for which he is also a columnist, Boycott said “In the last few weeks, I have had an MRI scan, CT scan, PET scan, and two biopsies, which have confirmed that I have throat cancer and will need an operation.”
"From past experience, I understand that overcoming cancer a second time will require excellent medical treatment and quite a bit of luck. Even if the operation is successful, every cancer patient knows they have to live with the possibility of it returning. So, I will just get on with it and hope for the best."
35 chemotherapy sessions the last time Boycott had cancer
Boycott’s surgery is scheduled for two weeks for now and he is hoping to avoid radiotherapy and chemotherapy which he went through 20 years back. He fought cancer in 2002 by going through 35 chemotherapy sessions and was nursed back to health with the support of his wife, Rachel and daughter, Emma.
Geoffrey Boycott’s career
Geoffrey Boycott is a part of the elite list of cricketers that have scored 100 first-class hundreds. He has scored 8,114 runs in 108 Tests at an average of nearly 48. He featured in 36 ODIs as well. He scored 1,082 runs at an average of 36.06 including a century and nine half-centuries.
He has also captained England in 1978 for four matches in absence of an injured Mike Brearly. After his cricketing career he established himself as a newspaper columnist and a popular broadcaster.
