Tim David has impressed franchises across the world with his supreme hitting skills. While the Singapore-born batter is yet to make his T20I debut for Australia, former skipper Ricky Ponting wants him to be part of the Aaron-Finch led T20I squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.

“If I was a selector, I would love to have someone like that in my team. If he’s playing or not, just to have that sort of striking power ability around, he’s an out and out match-winner,” Ponting was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia (CA).

Ponting not only considers David as a match-winner but compared him to Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds. Ponting feels that he can do what Symonds did for Australia in World Cup 2003.

“He’s the sort of player that could actually win you a World Cup. He’s not just the average run-of-the-mill guy that might just sneak into a squad. I mean, he actually reminds me a bit of someone like an Andrew Symonds back in the 2003 World Cup.

“You know if you get them in and you give him an opportunity they’re a chance of winning a tournament for you,“ Ponting added. “That’s how I’d be looking at him right now. I know there are some other great world-quality players in the middle order for Australia. But probably none of them boasts the resume as good as Tim’s over the last two years.”

T20 record
David has an exceptional record in the format. He has scored 2,556 runs at an average of 33.19 including 11 half-centuries. Also, he has a stupendous strike rate of 164.79. The big-hitting 6'5'' player has the capability of clearing any cricket ground around the world. He has played T20Is for Singapore and scored 558 runs from 14 innings at an average of 46.50 and strike rate of 158.52.

IPL career
David was roped in by five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions for Rs 8.25 lakh in the auction. MI finished at the bottom of the table but the 26-year-old turned out to be one of the positives for the Rohit Sharma-led side. He scored 186 runs from eight games at an average of 37.20 and an astonishing strike rate of 216.28. In the previous season, he got just one chance to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and remained unused for most of the season.
