MLC 2025: Daryl Mitchell concedes 53 runs but becomes Texas Super Kings' hero in 3-run win as he runs out Nicholas Pooran's MI New York

In a dramatic finish at Oakland Coliseum, California, Daryl Mitchell had a journey from zero to hero. He did not contribute with the bat, then leaked boundaries but effected two game-changing run outs followed by defending nine runs in the final over. Faf du Plessis' Texas Super Kings beat MI New York by three runs in last-ball thriller. MI New York were control of the run chase despite early wickets but gave away the advantage due to poor running. 

Conway plays anchor role

Earlier, Pooran won the toss and opted to bowl first. Trent Boult was impressive with the new ball whereas boundaries learked from the other end. Ehsan Adil got the breakthrough with captain Du Plessis' wicket. He scored 18 runs from 15 balls. In the never over, Naveen-ul-Haq for rid of Saiteja Mukkamalla for a single-digit score. Daryl Mitchell could not make an impact and fell to Michael Bracewell. At the halfway stage, Texas Super Kings were 79/3 with Devon Conway anchoring the innings.

Savage's 2nd T20 fifty

Bracewell struck again and ended Milind Kumar's 13-ball 19 cameo. Then, Sunny Patel trapped Donovan Ferreira in front of the stumps for a golden duck. Conway found the perfect partner in Calvin Savage who pushed the scoring rate. Conway reached his half-century from 35 balls. Savage's catch was dropped in the 18th over. He hit Boult for two sixes in the penultimate over. On the first ball of 20th over, Conway was run out for 44-ball 65. His knock was laced with two fours and five sixes. Savage reached his second T20 fifty from 32 balls. Mohammad Mohsin hit a boundary as Texas Super Kings posted 185/6 on the board.

Bracewell, Monank stabilise run chase

MI New York's run chase got off to a terrible start. Agni Chopra departed for just five runs on his MLC debut. Adam Milne dismissed him in the second over. In his next over, he got the wicket of Quinton de Kock. On the second ball Noor Ahmad bowled, he got the wicket of captain Pooran. MI New York were 32/3 after powerplay overs. Bracewell got the scoring rate up in the ninth over as he took on Mohsin. At the halfway stage, MI New York were 79/3. Monank Patel accelerated as well in the middle overs. Mitchell took a beating as Monank reached his half-century from 33 balls.

MI New York ruin comeback by flurry of run outs

Milne returned and broke the partnership with Bracewell's wicket. Du Plessis took a stunning one-handed catch diving to his right at mid-off. Bracewell scored 38 runs from 21 balls. Kieron Pollard arrived at the crease and smashed the ball for fours and sixes. In the 17th over, his lazy running led to his run out as Mitchell hit the stumps. On the next ball, Monank was run out as well. Pollard contributed with a 16-ball 32 cameo whereas Monank scored 62 runs from 44 balls. Sunny could not do any damage and was lbw by Mohsin. In the penultimate over, Boult hit a boundary. On the third delivery, he got run out in a dramatic fashion. Tajinder Dhillon found another boundary in Milne's last over. In the last over, MI New York needed nine runs. Mitchell gave away just five runs as Texas Super Kings won by three runs.
