India's head coach Gautam Gambhir and his support staff won't be on the tour of Zimbabwe and the Asian Games in Japan. As per a report by Sportstar, Centre of Excellence (CoE) head VVS Laxman will serve as stand-in head coach on these tours.

The T20I series against Zimbabwe is later this month, days after the ODI series concludes on England soil. Asian Games 2026 matches are set to clash with the ODI series against West Indies at home. The ODI series against West Indies at home will be played from September 27 to October 3.
Laxman will be accompanied by spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi and batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Earlier as well, Laxman has travelled with the second string squads. He has been on several overseas coaching assignments whenever a T20I series overlaps and cuts close to an ODI or Test series.

The T20I series will be played from July 23 to 26 in Harare. Several senior players including Sanju Samson have been rested. Rinku Singh, Mayank Yadav have been recalled whereas Harsh Dubey, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh have received their maiden T20I call-ups.

India’s pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah returns to T20Is for the Asian Games 2026. However, as per a report, the Asian Games 2026 squad may undergo changes as well. Several ODI players feature in the T20I squad for Japan Asian Games.
