Reports suggest that Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made a big change to their backroom staff ahead of the next season of the cash-rich league. The franchise have taken the decision to release Mike Hesson and batting coach Sanjay Bangar from their roster for the next season, with the Bengaluru-based outfit having been unable to win a single IPL title so far.
Now, with the team looking for different coaches, it is not yet clear whether they will have a separate bowling coach by firing Adam Griffith.
No decision has been taken on the bowling coach yet.
Hesson and Bangar had a special connection with former skipper Virat Kohli. Both were in their current positions for five years. But even under their tutelage, the franchise has not been able to win their first IPL title. The team could not even make it to the playoffs in the 2023 edition of the season. At the same time, it is not yet clear whether the team will rely on an Indian or foreign
coach.
Meanwhile, among other backroom staff changes in this competition, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) announced former Australian opener and head coach Justin Langer as their head coach for next year's Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Langer was named coach as former Zimbabwe batter Andy Flower's two-year contract came to an end.
“Lucknow Super Giants are on the journey of building a great story in the IPL. We all have a role to play in that journey and I am excited to be a part of the team moving forward,” Langer was quoted as saying in LSG’s press release on July 14.
Langer has had a good record as head coach of Australia. Taking over after the sandpaper gate scandal from Darren Lehmann, Langer helped Australia retain the urn in iconic Ashes 2019 which ended in a 2-2 draw. Before that, he had helped Perth Scorchers win three Big Bash League titles during his four-year tenure.
