Before the highly anticipated final between the India Champions and Pakistan Champions, former cricketer Abdul Razzaq was asked if the Misbah-ul-Haq-led side would be awarded by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if they won the title in inaugural season of World Championship of Legends 2024. Razzaq had a hilarious reply to Sikander Bakht’s question as he revealed all he received was a termination letter from the PCB a few hours before the final clash.
The clip of the show was posted on ‘X’. “Tell us if the team has received any support or message from the PC, something like “win the trophy and we will award you 10,000 dollars.” Sikhandar Bakht asked Razzaq.
Razzaq gave a hilarious response as he said, “Letter aaya hai termination ka” (received termination letter). He indirectly took a jibe at PCB after he and Pakistan Champions teammate Wahab Riaz became the first victims of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 debacle.
Razzaq and Wahab Riaz, who were earlier the selectors of the Pakistan Cricket Team, were sacked from the selection committee after Pakistan's poor run in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
While Razzaq and Riaz got sacked from the seven-member selection committee, Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Yousuf were retained. Both the captains of the red-ball (Shan Masood) and white-ball teams (Babar Azam), along with head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, have been incorporated into the new selection committee ahead of two-Test series against Bangladesh at home.
Razzaq’s replacement, Riaz gets consolation wicket
Interestingly, Razzaq did not feature in the playing XI of the final of the World Championship of Legends. Pakistan’s mystery spinner Saeed Ajmal replaced him as conditions in Edgbaston favoured the spinners. Ajmal conceded 25 runs and bagged a wicket in his quota of four overs.
In Razzaq’s absence, Yuvraj Singh-led India Champions defeated the Pakistan Champions by five wickets with five balls to spare. Ambati Rayudu’s half-century and Yusuf Pathan’s quickfire cameo helped India chase down the target of 157. Riaz was relatively economical as he conceded 22 runs in three overs and bagged the consolation wicket of Yusuf in the penultimate over.
