Sri Lanka announce 17-member squad for T20I series vs Bangladesh, SRH star set to make debut, 3 star all-rounders return

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on July 6, announced a 17-member squad for the three-T20I series against Bangladesh. Fast bowler Eshan Malinga who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, has been called up. 

The T20I series has marked the return of former captain Dasun Shanaka, alongside fast-bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne and spin-bowling all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. 

Shanaka's last T20I appearance was against India in July 2024. Since then, he has been part of Dubai Capitals, who won the ILT20 2025. Karunaratne's last T20I appearance was against New Zealand in April 2023. Since getting dropped, he has focused on domestic cricket. Young Wellalage's previous T20I appearance was in November 2024. Like Karunaratne, he has gone through the domestic cricket grind as well.

Notable ommissions -

The selectors decided to drop Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Chamindu Wickramsinghe and Asitha Fernando from the squad.

T20I series schedule, both teams' rankings

The T20I series will begin on July 10 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The following T20Is on July 13 and July 16 will be played in Dambulla and Colombo respectively.

Head-to-head

The two teams have played 17 T20Is against each other. Sri Lanka have had the upper hand with 11 wins out of 17. Bangladesh have never won a T20I series on Sri Lanka soil.

The T20I series will be a chance for seventh-placed Sri Lanka (231 rating points) to close the gap between them and West Indies (243 rating points). Meanwhile, Banglades are in the 10th place with 218 rating points.
