Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have extended their heartfelt support to the people of Afghanistan after a destructive 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern provinces late on August 31 that cost more than 800 lives and injured more than 2,800 individuals.
The destructive earthquake hit near Jalalabad in Nangarhar and Kunar at 11:47 PM local time. Rescue teams are working hard, but they’re facing tough challenges. Many areas are remote and mountainous, with roads blocked by landslides, making it difficult to reach people who need help. MS Dhoni's CSK took their 'X' formerly known as Twitter to share a message of solidarity for the neighbouring nation.
“To our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan, we're heartbroken by the earthquake that struck your land. In this darkest hour, may strength and hope lift you again.”
Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates also observed a minute’s silence in memory of the earthquake victims in Afghanistan before the tri-nation clash.
As per the Afghanistan Cricket, the national team pledged their match fees from the game against the UAE, along with additional donations, to help families affected by the quake in Kunar province.
Players participating in the ongoing Regional List A Tournament in Khost will also contribute on Tuesday, with all collections to be sent immediately to support those impacted in Kunar during this difficult period.
CSK's outing in IPL 2025
Five time champions CSK had a forgetful outing in the 18th edition of the cash-rich league. The Chennai based franchise faced an early blow after skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the whole tournament due to an ankle injury. After his injury, MS Dhoni was reppointed as captain. CSK managed to win four matches out of 14 outings.
